Supporting Artisans

Sustainable Threads works in partnership with two artisan groups, namely Aagor and Sadhna, which support the livelihoods of a total of over 750 women artisans.

Aagor weaves and Sadhna hand-embroiders beautiful life-style products. Both the initiatives are Fair Trade, home-based, income augmentation efforts for rural and tribal women. Their earnings depending on the produce and the time invested makes up 20% - 50% of the total household income. In many instances, this is perhaps their only source of much-needed cash money.

The women artisans play a critical role in various executive and governance decisions of their organizations including costing, quality control and profit distribution. More significantly, this work provides a platform for women to come together and build their confidence levels. The experience and benefits of being a part of these groups, has infused new energies - it has enabled many women to invest in health and education for their children, secured their futures, and helped some carve a role for themselves in the social and political life of their villages.

Sustainable Threads seeks to support and strengthen the socio- economic empowerment of women’s collectives by supporting their business and providing them marketing opportunities.
